S. Maria Tamayo-Soto serves as the Parking Services Administrator for the City of Las Vegas. In this role, she works with the city’s parking system including the operation of parking meters, enforcement, planning for event road closures, lot leases, parades, marathons, and parking for special events. Working with an amazing team of parking professionals on centralized on-street and off-street parking functions and activities, including rates, collections, enforcement, and facility maintenance; supporting short and long-range planning for parking facilities. As Parking Administrator she supports the direction and mission for how the parking systems can best support the city’s economic development goals, Soto has been with the city of Las Vegas since 2021.
Soto has gained extensive experience in the transportation, parking, and hospitality industry during her 35-year career. She previously held positions as Executive Director of Security, Safety and Surveillance for Major Las Vegas resort hotels and as the Traffic Manager for the world’s busiest convention center- LVCC with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority with over 4.8 million square feet of space and 10,000 surface parking spaces which were converted to outdoor exhibit space, race tracks, or massive equipment displays. Operationally she was responsible for all paid parking revenue and over 140 staff, working with City, State, or County entities in managing traffic control planning for larger events which required multiple road closures and relocation of parking operations to several off-site locations and coordinating all levels of transportation; taxis, rideshare companies, limos, show shuttles, charter vehicles, helicopter landings, and employee and attendee parking daily.
Soto earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Services Management and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, Las Vegas and an OSHA certification as a Health and Safety Practitioner. She is a member of the International Parking Institute previously serving on the Safety and Security Committee and currently serves on the board of directors for the Southwest Parking & Transportation Association.
